The seven life stages

A life, in seven stages

LifePoem asks about them in order — one stage, one conversation, one story. Nothing is timed, and you can stop after any of them.

An illustration of a path winding through seven small scenes: a paper boat, an open book, a work bag, two cups of tea set down together, a house beside a tree, a lit lantern, and a paper plane rising into the sky.

How it works

Three steps, at your own pace

These steps all happen in the LifePoem mobile app, on your phone or tablet.

  1. Tell a memory

Speak or type about a moment from your life.

Hold the large record button while you talk, or use the keyboard if you prefer.

  2. Let the story unfold

Gentle questions help you recall the people, places, and feelings.

One question at a time, and you answer in your own words. Nothing is timed.

  3. Keep it. Share it.

Turn your memories into a written story for yourself and your family.

Stories are saved on your device, and sync to your account once you sign in and reconnect.

Made for your pace

No writing skill required. Nothing to rush.

LifePoem was built with older adults, so the things that usually get in the way — small text, hidden buttons, forms that hurry you — are not part of it.

About working offline: your stories are saved on your device, and sync to your account once you sign in and reconnect. Voice transcription and story writing need an internet connection.

  • Speak or type

Hold to record your voice, or write with the keyboard. Both work the same way.
  • Large text and clear controls

Big buttons and adjustable reading sizes, so you can set what is comfortable.
  • Read-aloud replies

Listen to the questions and your finished story instead of reading them.
  • Four familiar languages

English, 中文, Bahasa Melayu and தமிழ் — in the app and on this website.
  • Gentle prompts, without pressure

Questions arrive one at a time. Stop and come back whenever you want.

A story worth sharing

The things only you remember

A kitchen at six in the morning. The first pay packet. Advice from a grandmother that still holds. These are the details families ask about later, and the ones easiest to leave unsaid.

A finished story can take three shapes, so it sounds the way the memory feels.

Prose
reads like a short chapter from a memoir.
Diary
dated and close to the moment, in your own voice.
Letter
written to someone in particular.

The Kitchen at Six in the Morning

My mother was always awake before the rest of us. By the time I came down the stairs the kettle had already boiled twice, the rice was on, and the window above the sink had gone soft with steam. She never said good morning. She would push a bowl across the table towards me and carry on with whatever her hands were doing.

Years later I understood that this was how she said the things she never said out loud. A bowl pushed across a table, still too hot to hold. I have made that same breakfast for my own children, in a different kitchen, in a different country, and every time I set the bowl down I hear the kettle in that first house.

Written from a short spoken memory. Example text created for this design, not a customer story.
